TEACHERS of Physical Education (PE) and the Arts can look forward to greater support and training with the setting up of two new academies.
Education Minister Ng Eng Hen announced the Ministry's plans to set up Physical Education and Sports Teacher Academy (PESTA) and the Singapore Teachers' Academy for the aRts (STAR) at the appointment ceremony for principals on Tuesday.
'These will be the enablers to help us provide a more rounded education to every child,' said Dr Ng in his speech.
Developing soft skills in the areas of Physical Education, Arts and Music ('PAM'), are essential to preparing students for the world of the future, he added.
PESTA will provide PE teachers with in-service training in various PE methods, sports concepts and coaching skills, while STAR would provide Art and Music teachers with opportunities to interact and learn from each other to develop their crafts.
Both academies have not been sited yet, but plans are underway to do so, said Dr Ng.
