EPCOR Utilities To Launch Power Generation Company, Capital Power

EPCOR Utilities Inc. (EPCOR Utilities) plans to create Capital Power Corporation (Capital Power), a power generation company that will be permanently headquartered in Edmonton. Capital Power plans to develop and build power plants across North America and continue the commercialization of near-zero emission power generation technologies, including integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and Amine Scrubbing.

AES Reports Net Income Of $501 Million In Q1 2009

The AES Corporation (AES) has reported revenues of $3.4 billion for the first quarter of 2009, compared with the revenues of $4.1 billion in the year-ago quarter. It has also reported a net income of $501 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, for the first quarter of 2009, compared with the net income of $408 million, or $0.34 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

Bapco Completes Feasibility Studies For Five Exploration Projects Worth $5 Billion

The Bahrain Petroleum Company B.S.C. (Bapco) has concluded preliminary feasibility studies for four to five projects valued at $5 billion. The projects, which incorporate rising the capacity of the Bahrain refinery to 350,000 barrels per day (bpd), from 250,000 bpd, are element of a new 10-year plan to increase Bahrain’s production of oil and gas and increase income from the sector. Preliminary studies on the projects will be completed by the end of 2009 or early 2010.

Kansas Senate Sanctions Construction Of Sunflower Electric Power’s 895 MW Coal-Fired Plant In Finney County, Kansas

The Kansas Senate sanctioned on May 7, 2009 a bill pushed by Governor Mark Parkinson that will allow Sunflower Electric Power Corporation (Sunflower Electric Power) to construct a 895 megawatts (MW) coal-fired power station near Holcomb in Kansas. The Senate sanctioned the bill on a 37-2 vote, remitting the measure to the House, where leaders are not likely to object to the bill when it comes up for a vote on May 8, 2009.
